Trademarks

WSGL works closely with the management of client companies in developing appropriate trademark policies for the establishment and preservation of trademark rights. Our experience in securing trademark rights and in related trademark matters extends to United States federal rights, state trademark rights and to all major countries to assist clients in developing and maintaining a cohesive multi-national trademark program.

WSGL provides trademark and tradename investigations for the screening and clearance of proposed marks and company names, to whatever depth and geographic scope is appropriate to the client's needs. These include records of the Patent and Trademark Office, trademark and corporate name records of the fifty states, trademark records of foreign countries and other name sources. These name investigations can be conducted through our in-house computer facility as well as through the facilities of outside domestic and foreign research sources.

WSGL files and prosecutes applications for trademark registration in the United States, the various states and all major countries. We also have substantial experience in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings in the Patent and Trademark Office, both in representing trademark owners and in representing parties seeking to oppose or cancel trademark registration of others. We also regularly engage in the resolution of trademark disputes on behalf of owners enforcing trademark rights and on behalf of parties defending against trademark assertions of others. The firm also handles contested trademark matters in foreign countries in conjunction with trademark attorneys in particular countries.

We also have particular experience handling trademark matters involving the Internet and in successfully resolving Internet domain name disputes.
