Lin J. HymelLin Hymel has extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patents and counseling clients with respect to matters relating to freedom-to-operate, patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement, with emphasis in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and chemistry. He also has experience in copyright and trademark law and licensing. He has represented clients ranging from individual inventors and start-ups to large companies. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Hymel worked for a large general practice law firm in Boston and an intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C. He also served as an in house patent attorney at a major biotechnology company. Dr. Hymel began his career as an academic scientist. He performed research and published scientific articles in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, and physiology, with emphasis on membrane transport proteins, receptors, and artificial membrane systems. He also worked at the National Institutes of Health as a scientific review administrator. Dr. Hymel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude with honors in Biology, from Tulane University. He was the recipient of a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship and earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University. He then completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Ulm, Germany and worked as assistant professor at the University of Linz, Austria and at Tulane University School of Medicine. He received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Maryland and is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
