Thomas Hoover is a partner with the firm. His practice is devoted to counseling clients with respect to intellectual property rights including patent, trademark and copyright law. He has been responsible for the development and oversight of both US and foreign patent portfolios for large and small corporations, universities, hospitals and venture funded start-ups. His practice includes the prosecution of patents before the US Patent and Trademark Office, patent appeals and interferences, reissue, reexamination and, examination and opposition proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. He has been responsible for the preparation of infringement and validity opinions, the negotiation and drafting of license agreements, settlement agreements, and other transactions involving intellectual property rights and has been involved in trade secret and patent infringement litigations. Mr. Hoover has substantial experience with respect to medical devices and imaging technologies for surgical and diagnostic use, semiconductors and instrumentation in the semiconductor industry, electro-optic materials, optics, control systems software and communications.

Mr. Hoover began his professional career as a staff scientist researching the properties and fabrication of semiconductor materials and then in digital image processing. He has spent 14 years with another prominent intellectual property firm serving as a principal on the Board of Directors for many years. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and College of the Holy Cross (A.B., 1979) and received his Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law in 1985. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Hoover is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Boston Patent Law Association.
