George Hartnell

George Hartnell is primarily engaged in patent prosecution and related matters for the firm. His areas of expertise include electrical and electronic systems and circuits, power distribution, power control, integrated circuitry, mechanical devices, medical devices, instrumentation, and material testing technologies. He is also involved in the trademark and copyright practice of the firm. His intellectual property experience also includes patent infringement and validity studies.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Hartnell worked for five years in an Intellectual Property Practice Group of a large Boston general practice law firm where he was involved primarily in patent and trademark prosecution matters.

Prior to commencing the practice of law, Mr. Hartnell served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army, as a staff engineer for environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting firms, and as a patent law clerk for the National Aeronautic and Space Administration.

Mr. Hartnell was a distinguished graduate of The United States Military Academy in 1979, earning a B.S. degree in Applied Sciences and Engineering. He received an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1986 and a J.D. degree from The College of William and Mary in 1997. Mr. Hartnell has taken graduate level electrical engineering and computer science courses at Boston University and through the University of Illinois.

Mr. Hartnell was registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 1998 and was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1997.

Mr. Hartnell is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Boston Bar Association. He also serves on the Newburyport Tree Commission.
